§ All Samsung Windows-based notebooks are Energy Star-certified and TCO-certified since October 2009
§ Series 9 is first Samsung notebook to be awarded the TCO Certified Edge
Samsung Electronics a leader in digital media and convergence technologies, was awarded the prestigious TCO Certified Edge accreditation for its Series 9 notebook on 21 March, and the Energy Star Partner of the Year award for all its electronics products, including notebooks, on 12 April. From October 2009, Samsung is also the only notebook provider with 100 percent of its Windows-based notebook models carrying both Energy Star and TCO logos. Both accolades go to strengthening Samsung’s environmental leadership in notebooks.
Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy to help save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. The Energy Star Partner of the Year award goes further to recognize organizations for strategically and comprehensively managing energy use, and providing efficient products and services to consumers.
TCO Certified is a world-renowned accreditation given to IT equipment designed for high usability with minimal impact on the environment. In particular, the prestigious TCO Certified Edge meets the TCO Certified requirement and at least one additional criterion. The Samsung Series 9 notebook was lauded for its outstanding achievement in outdoor readability, superior performance and environmental features.
“It is a great honor to receive the TCO Certified Edge and enhance our notebook leadership with the Series 9.” said Kyuho Uhm, senior vice president of the IT Solutions Business at Samsung Electronics. “The Series 9 appeals to premium consumers around the world as it offers excellence in design, performance, and environment-friendliness. As a leading IT company, Samsung will incorporate more eco-friendly features in our PC products.”
Series 9 was launched targeting the global premium notebook market. Crafted from duralumin, a lightweight material twice as strong as aluminum and normally used in advanced aircraft design, the ultra-lightweight, 1.31kg notebook features a superior ergonomic and aesthetic design. The notebook’s SuperBright Plus display with 400nit brightness, which is 100 percent brighter than conventional displays, as well as its vibrant color reproduction (16 million colors) creating 60 times greater color depth and contrast ratio (1,300:1), make it one of the most beautiful notebook displays on the market.
CEO of TCO Development, Soren Enholm congratulated Samsung on the award: “This achievement by Samsung is a leading example of what the TCO Certified Edge program sets out to reward: high-performance and eco-design that goes beyond the mainstream. By combining the two without compromise, Samsung has shown that it is possible to deliver an exceptional user experience while also maintaining its commitment to green design.”
